About Agro Green Java

We are dedicated to bringing you the finest Indonesian spices with a commitment to quality, sustainability, and traditional farming excellence.

Our Story

Java Long Pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl), also commonly known as Java Pepper, is a native Indonesian plant belonging to the Piperaceae family (pepper family), closely related to black pepper. This plant is a climbing and twining vine.

The most important part used is the fruit, which is cylindrical, elongated, and tapers at the ends, resembling long pepper. The fruit has a spicy taste and a pungent aroma, due to its piperine content.

Traditionally, cabe jamu is widely known as a spice and an important ingredient in the production of traditional Indonesian herbal medicine because of its believed properties to treat various ailments, such as warming the body, increasing stamina, and helping with digestive problems.

Our Production Process

From seedling to harvest, we follow traditional methods combined with modern agricultural practices to ensure the highest quality Java Long Pepper.

Seedling Propagation

Stem cuttings measuring 20–30 cm in length, planted in a medium of soil, compost, and sand.

Field Planting

Seedlings transferred to field with 2 × 2 meters planting distance, supported by trees for climbing.

Optimal Growing Conditions

Loose soil with pH 6–7, good drainage, balanced organic and NPK fertilization.

Natural Pest Control

Using botanical pesticides such as mimba leaves and lemongrass for sustainable farming.

Strategic Harvesting

First harvest at 12–15 months, with frequency of 4–6 times per year for optimal quality.

Proper Drying

Fruits dried until moisture content reaches ±12% using natural coastal microclimate.

Production Excellence

Java long pepper (Piper retrofractum Vahl) production begins with careful seedling propagation using stem cuttings. The seedlings are transferred to fields with optimal spacing and natural support systems.

Our production system is generally small to medium scale, yielding 1.5–3 tons of dry product per hectare per year. The herbal chili is widely used as raw material for the herbal medicine, pharmaceutical, and food industries.

The advantages of the coastal microclimate, which tends to be dry during harvest season, help the natural drying process so that color, taste, and essential oil content are maintained at optimal levels.
